Maui Adult Day Care Center approached me looking for a logo to put on black T-shirts for their event honoring kapunas (seniors) of Maui. They asked me to incorporate a lei of Ilima flowers wrapped in Maile leaves. The job called for three colors only, so I kept the lei design simple and representative of the flowers and plants as they typically are used in leis. The flattened Ilima flowers stack in a jagged fashion dictating the shape of the lei showing highlights in yellow, while the Maile called for green with their vines falling out to the black background. The type for Leis of Aloha is bright against the black background and represents polynesian-style wood carving.
